THE INFORMATION ABOUT MELANAU RACES ON TRADITIONAL FOODS.

The Melanau people of Sarawak's food is impacted by the environment and the curvature of the ground, which gives a variety of food sources. Melanau's favourite dishes include:

SAGU

SAGU MELANAU.jpg

In the past, the Melanau people's main meal was sago. For them, sago serves as a rice alternative. Sago comes in a variety of varieties, including Mukah, Medong, and Tupek. Lemantak (sago flour), coconut milk, fine dried coconut, salt, and rice powder are some of the ingredients needed to manufacture sago.

LINUT

Because Linut is their favourite food, the Melanau are no strangers to it. Lemantak and hot water are used to make linut. Linut is one of the simplest Melanau traditional cuisines to cook. Linut will not taste nice without sambal, so use it to give flavour to foods like grey nail shoots, ulam raja leaves, and tebawan cucumber leaves as an additional menu.

UMAI

UMAI SARAWAK.jpg

Umai is a dish produced from fresh fish that isn't cooked because the fish is simply cooked with lemon. Umai can't be made with all kinds of fish. Mackerel and blonde fish are two fish that are frequently used. Fish, lemon, onion, salt, and chilli are among the components required for umai meals. Apart from fish, umai dip can also include jellyfish and shrimp. Because the jellyfish and shrimp are separated from the other components in dipped umai, it differs from conventional umai. The umai is dyed with ingredients including lemon, onion, and chilli salt. We can add belacan to make the dipped umai taste better.
